Horses

Accommodation and animal welfare. The stud farm is located next to a small dirt road, in the beautifull surroundings of Hunsrück Mid-Germany. A collection of old hedgerows provides cool in summer, and some cover in winter. The horses have spacious walk-stables for the night where they can stay in the herds, large paddocks with outdoor stables to take shelter from the sun, wind and rain if needed, so that the horses remain healthy, slim, and are able to go outside, and can get exercise all day, all year round. They are moved between pastures on set times, and they know what to expect on every moment of the day. They get plenty of exercise which is of course very healthy, and they retain their beautiful shiny fur, and in spring quickly lose their winter fur. They recieve daily personal human attention, but especially social contacts amongst the horses are important, and usually there is a quiet, relaxed, and content atmosphere in the herds.

Good manners. The horses and foals are brought from the pastures to paddocks in the yard with a halter every day, which allows them to grow used to many things and humans and calmly learn patience and good manners. With the imprinting during birth the foals and fillies are already introduced to humans in a very positive way, which will benefit both later on.

Horse wellbeing. The horses like to come to people, we do not give them treats or candy, but they often come out of the paddocks or pastures by themselves in order to be stroked. Something they can enjoy enormously, which can be seen from a curled lip, dreamy eyes, and of course asking for more. A small number of horses can perform tricks in order to get attention, like Spanish pace for beginners, making small compliments and giving kisses. Of course this only happens when they feel like it, and no halter or pressure is involved. Attention is paid to the wellbeing of every horse, mainly by observing the groups from a distance through the large windows of the living room. Observation is an old way I was taught by my mother, who bred successful KWPN sport horses during my youth, and I have been able to prevent many problems using it, if it is sometimes only 15 minutes a day, it provides so much insight in the behavior, health, etc. of the horses. And it can protect you from a lot of trouble.

Care. Of course the horses only receive the best care; the vaccination influenza is a must, but luckely only once every 3 years tetanus vaccination is a must in Germany. The feet are done every 8 weeks ( for young foals every 3 or 4 weeks when needed) by my good farrier from the Mosel. The very good dentist visits yearly all the way from Mainz. The manure is removed from the pastures, stables and paddocks every day, which leads to very few or no worms at all, meaning worms do not need to be removed as often and no resistance occurs. We have the wurm-eggs counted by Het Woud in Holland. And most of the time we dont have to dewurm at all, that’s what proves and makes us feel good with our programme.

In case of any complaints or doubts the veterinarian is called in, one of them is specialised in miniatures. Shiatsu- and or aroma- massage is applied, which makes them flexible and relaxed. Good for body and mind, they love it when they see her coming with her suitcase with ethereal oil, and they all want to go first.

We are Bio, why would you give your horse food with pestcides? Logical. We were Bio in Holland aswell. Our own German biological herb hay has not been treated with pesticides, and combined with my pastures with a lot of different types of bio-grass, and bio-herbs, vitamins and minerals from the rocky soil causes the horses to fare well. We have the hay analysed to see what’s exactly in it, and how to treat our fields and ajust with the horses. We use shells for calcium on our fields, and use lava from the vulcano area nearby at the moment. Also the rest of the food for the horses is bio, from Bio-Ron we buy it from friend Falabella-breeders (who also have beautifull Falabella horses!)www.tiszoalstis.nl from Holland, so the horses are as ‘clean’ as possible. They get bio-spelt, bio muesli, bio-bokashi, bio-chi, grey salt, himalaya salt, sanofor sometimes bio-fruits. And we work at the stables with EM, we add the good bacteries, wich create a clean and healthy atmosphere everywhere, flies dissapear also from this. The clean fresh air of the Hunsrück, the great water, and our own biological German hay with herbs gives the horses all together the best chances of a healthy life, and good and healthy offspring. Together with the tranquillity and spacious walk-stables, paddocks and fields with beautifull nature and an always friendly approach from our side, we try to give them everything to make them happy horses and ceep them healthy every day.

Con Corazon In short, we make every effort to make these great animals as happy as possible. I always want to be able to say; “I wish it was my horse”. And as I always say; “better spoiled than neglected”, haha. And every time you see one of these tender foals comes galloping towards you from the end of the pasture to come leaning against your knee and begging to be stroked… it of course melts your heart!
